Imagine the smallest car you’ve ever seen – then shrink it down by 50% and you’ll have a good idea what size our new company car is! It’s our Baby Smart Car! If you’ve never seen one, you have to come and see ours. It is so small that you can parallel park sideways! It is so cute and rather funny. What’s even funnier is seeing Dr. Miselis driving it! He is maybe 6’4” and looks like he wouldn’t even fit but does and he loves it. If you were given a choice to stay home or leave the house on a day where the rain is coming down so hard you can barely see, and the wind is so strong you have visions of being carried away like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz…“there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home”, red shoes and all, what would you do? Not many of us would leave the house right? Throw in the fact that the wind was taking out huge trees everywhere! That was what the weather was like on the day of our several months planned, and much anticipated, special event, “An Evening of Pink”. Read the rest »

I can’t believe the day is finally here! I was nervous this morning and excited at the same time. I dreamt that I coughed during the procedure!!!! Everyone at work was excited for me and asked how I was doing. I worked most of the day as usual until it was my turn to have LASIK. I was pretty relaxed about it all day because I’ve seen how Dr. is with his patients and I work with the patients after their procedure so I know how great their results are. I have been telling everyone that I’m having LASIK and I brought my family and friends to our office to see me have LASIK! I brought my kids, my niece, my parents, my brother, and my neighbors to watch the procedure! Wow…it’s really happening…reality has finally hit, I’ll be having LASIK in just two more days. And today is my LASIK pre-op. The morning of the pre-op you’re not supposed to read anything up close because it changes the shape of the cornea. It wasn’t too hard not reading anything up close. First I met with the LASIK Techs for some testing and measurements, then I met with Dr. Richards, and then Dr. Miselis.
Techs: During the pre-op the techs (ophthalmic technicians) were so great and it was a really good experience. They were so nice and explained everything they were doing with me. And even though I’m also a tech, it’s just different when you’re on the other side – as the patient. They assured me that everything would be fine.
Dr. Richards:Â Â Dr. Richards, one of the Optometrists at Heritage, was really nice, she explained why she was doing each test, and was very detailed.
Dr. Miselis:     Dr Miselis was very nice. He told me what to expect during and after the LASIK procedure, and was very reassuring.

When you have LASIK, you can’t wear make-up for a few days before the procedure and a week after. I was not looking forward to that! I stopped putting on make-up 3 days before LASIK and once I got used to it wasn’t that bad. Everyone at work said I looked fine but they’re probably just saying that!!!! I just keep reminding myself that it’s worth it to be able to see without glasses and contacts anymore.

The next step was to stop wearing contacts and start using the Restasis drops. Stopping the contacts wasn’t that hard for me and neither was doing the drops (what I was not looking forward to was not using make-up for the three days before and one week after LASIK).  When I started the Restasis it wasn’t hard at all. It was easy to remember to use them first thing in the morning and the last thing before I go to bed. The drops help get your eyes ready for the procedure. I guess they help your eyes make more tears. They made my eyes feel really good. I was so excited to be doing this! I actually brought it up in every conversation, “I’m having LASIK!” I felt special like I was doing something for me.

The Screening
Â
The first thing I did was have a screening to make sure I was a candidate for LASIK. The day of the screening I felt so excited. It was all sinking in…I was really doing this! The screening went well and Elysse, our Refractive Surgery Coordinator,  explained everything to me. She made me feel really comfortable and let me know that I was a perfect candidate for LASIK. She told me exactly what it was like to have LASIK. I was even more excited after the screening. I’m really doing this!
