KENNETH MISELIS, MD: Lasik is a refractive surgery correction procedure. The original procedure that we had was PRK. Lasik was developed as an alternative to PRK because it allowed the patient to see better more quickly, and to feel less uncomfortable in the post-operative period. And in essence, is to make a thin flap of tissue and laser underneath that and put the flap back over the top.
The advantage of Lasik over PRK is just the edge of the flap had to seal over so people would see better more quickly and feel better more quickly, which were big patient advantages, from a patient perspective. Had those customer friendly characteristics of better vision quicker and less discomfort.
