KENNETH MISELIS, MD: The refractive errors that Lasik can treat are broadened quite a bit since we’ve started this procedure. Nearsightedness or myopia, farsightedness, or hyperopia, and astigmatism are all refractive errors that the population has very, very commonly. And all of those can be treated with Lasik and laser vision correction.
And Lasik has its limitations with the magnitude of nearsightedness or the magnitude of farsightedness or astigmatism so that becomes a factor in what we can treat. And there are other factors that are involved in qualifying a person for the procedure or whether a different procedure or no procedure would be better for that individual person, which is important to determine, obviously, ahead of time.
